Our Story
Queen Bee Foot Care was founded by Shera McConnell, a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) that offers medical foot care nursing for patients of all ages and backgrounds.
Through her work as a chronic disease management nurse for over a decade, Shera has seen the impact that foot health has on the quality of life for many patients living with diabetes and other chronic illnesses.
Prevention of wounds and amputations requires regular and frequent care and monitoring. Unfortunately, there’s a lack of access in rural Alberta for patients that need care from qualified and trained healthcare professionals.
Queen Bee Foot Care was founded to fill this gap in care and resources to make foot care nursing services more accessible and affordable for people living in rural Alberta.
I believe in preventative and informed healthcare. By educating the public on ways that they can improve their lifestyle and how that relates to improved quality of life and longevity, it allows people the choice to take the proper steps to ensure the best possible outcome for themselves. All people, regardless of age or physical ability should have the information needed to make better choices and be allowed the freedom to make the best lifestyle choices for themselves. I believe in encouragement without judgement.

Inspiration
Shera was inspired to become a nurse from an early age. As a child, she watched her grandmother – a strong, proud Indigenous woman – pass away from sepsis due to an ingrown toenail that led to gangrene in her lower leg. This unfortunate fate was a complication from type 2 diabetes and from not having any health professionals able to care for her feet. Losing her grandmother inspired Shera to become a foot care nurse to prevent others from suffering the same fate.
Education
Shera is an experienced and caring nurse that has been authorized by the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA) to provide Advanced Practice Footcare. She has over 19 years of experience as an LPN, with over 11 years specializing in Advanced Practice Footcare. She also has over 6 years of experience as a Footcare Nurse Educator. Shera spent 11 years developing a highly successful footcare program for Aspen Primary Care Network (PCN), generating thousands of hours of hands-on footcare experience.
Vision
Shera wants to make a difference in people’s lives by creating a relaxed and comfortable environment for nurses and clients. She aims to provide the high quality of care that clients need, without the restrictions of time and criteria that are common in other healthcare settings. Shera is an honest and open nurse that values the client as an individual first. She stays current in the latest education in foot care nursing and will refer her clients to the best healthcare providers that can care for their needs.
